My blog is about the issue of gay marriage. A lot of people support it, while others are against it.
I looked up a website called "http://infogr.am" There, I found a blog titled "10 REASONS WHY GAY MARRIAGE SHOULD BE LEGALIZED"
A guy named Hendrik Hertzberg came up with this quote supporting it: "Marriage should be between a spouse and a spouse, not a gender and a gender."
Here are the 10 supporting reasons (in my own words):
10. The rate of divorce will go down.
9. The straight folks won't be impacted.
8. Churches and states don't have to be divided.
7. Human rights are equal.
6. It's already happening.
5. Civil unions are different.
4. It decreases suicide in terms of young folks.
3. You don't have to visit the hospital to determine your sexual orientation.
2. Gay couples and people in general will be accepted.
1. Kids will be adopted a whole lot more.
In the USA, more than 50% of marriages don't last. Compared to other countries and continents, studies have proven that the USA has one of the world's highest divorce rates. Allowing gays the opportunity to get married will increase marriage rates because less couples will get divorced due to incompatibility or infertility. Legalizing gay marriage will decrease divorce rate because it cannot get any worse than it is right now.
In the 50s, interracial marriage was illegal, but that's no longer the case. In the 60s, racial integration was legal and had positive feedback from white communities. With gay marriage legalized in some states, homosexual couples have the right to tie the knot. Manhattan, New York had a $9 million economic boost the very first that it was made legal..
The main reason why gay marriage is illegal is due to this "homosexual are sinners" religious quote. We live in a society that maintains different views. The Ten Commandments do not define our legal system, so why does the religious argument "marriage is the union between a man and a women" keep so many gay couples from becoming legally married? Legalizing gay marriage will have no negative impact on religion and/ or the religious view of others, just as religion should not have any impact on the issue of gay marriage.
Teenagers are bullied at school for a crap load of reasons, but the result of his or her sexual orientation is one of the main entrees.
Legalizing it helps create a community that has everyone no matter what they orientation is. Couples as well as individuals in the LGBT community will seem less "different" from heterosexual lifestyle, so straight couples and individuals will be more inclined to accept homosexual couples into their communities.
Most adoption agencies are opposed to gay couples adopting kids and will only give them away to heterosexual couples,. By legalizing gay marriage in all 50 states, adoption agencies will have no choice but to grant the same respect and right to homosexual couples as they would to straight ones. Gay marriage will increase the chances for foster children to gain the experience of having beautiful parents and families in their lives.
Then, I looked up a website called "www.tfpstudentaction.org", where they wrote a blog going against gay marriage entitled: "10 Reasons Why Homosexual Marriage is Harmful and Must be Opposed".
Here are the 10 opposing reasons (in my own words):
1. It's not marriage
2. It violates the law
3. It denies kids the priviledge to have either a mom or dad
4. It's making people feel like a gay lifestyle is okay when it really isn't
5. It's created into a civil right
6. It doesn't create the typical household feeling
7. It Defeats the State’s Purpose of Benefiting Marriage
8. It pushes the envelope on society
9. It's the main problem for the revolution of sent
10. It upsets God
The people who wrote this believe that when certain folks call something marriage really doesn't make it one anyway. From where they come from, marriage should be between a man and a woman. Humans who suppose same-sex marriage feel a lot different. They believe that it's okay for either two men or two women to walk down the aisle. This also denies these types of self-evident differences and opinions: biological, physiological, and psychological. Another thing is that they disobey the main purpose of marriage: the human race perpetuation, as well as kids' upbringing. A pair of different things aren't considered the same.
To top it all off, they actually quoted verses from the bible, just like opposer's who are Christians would do. Here are some prime examples:
1. Being rooted in human nature, natural law is universal and immutable. It applies to the entire human race, equally. It commands and forbids consistently, everywhere and always. Saint Paul taught in the Epistle to the Romans that the natural law is inscribed on the heart of every man. (Romans 2:14-15)
2. Marriage is not the creature of any State. Rather, it was established by God in Paradise for our first parents, Adam and Eve. As we read in the Book of Genesis: “God created man in His image; in the Divine image he created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them, saying: ‘Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.’” (Genesis 1:28-29)
3. The same was taught by Our Savior Jesus Christ: “From the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother; and shall cleave to his wife.” (Mark 10:6-7).
4. The Lord rained down sulphurous fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah. He overthrew those cities and the whole Plain, together with the inhabitants of the cities and the produce of the soil. (Genesis 19:24-25)
In my opinion, folks should get married no matter what their sexual orientation is. I have family members and friends who are gay. I even had crushes on girls that turned out to be gay. There are even some LGBT athletes that are still active right now. The truth is that gays should have the same rights and heterosexuals do. You don't have to like them, but you do have to show them some respect.
